Texston® has developed Ortex®, an advanced smooth-finish system that is engineered to achieve the classic, variegated Santa Barbara look while offering meaningfully improved crack resistance compared to conventional smooth finishes.
Proprietary fiber reinforcement
Ortex® incorporates a proprietary microfiber configuration that reinforces the thin finish coat and helps resist crack formation.
Hybrid flexibility
An added acrylic component provides flexibility without eliminating the authentic variegated character associated with traditional smooth finishes.
Authentic appearance (traditional OR contemporary)
Depending on methodology and specification, Ortex® can be installed to present:
- a traditional Santa Barbara-style variegation or,
- a more color-stable / contemporary appearance
Reduced cracking
Manufacturer testing and field experience indicate Ortex® exhibits significantly less cracking than standard smooth finishes, including in environments subject to movement and vibration.
Sandable & Patchable
Unlike an other no other smooth finish coat, Ortex® can be sanded to correct flaws, additionally, because of that capability, Ortex® can be patched and sanded to blend – this is a major benefit for this revolutionary product.
Ortex is particularly well-suited for:
- seismic regions
- hillside or settlement-prone sites
- projects where smooth finish aesthetics are desired, but cracking risk must be minimized
Important note: Ortex® can be used as part of a broader mitigation strategy—especially when paired with CRS (Base & Mesh)
